Since I was 12, I have been in love with Paramore. A female-fronted, punk pop outfit who captured my heart from the very first note of Misery Business.
Infamous for their ups and downs, they’ve been plagued with band members leaving, musical hits and misses and their scrappy Ginger singer being hailed as overshadowing the rest of the band – all of which have led to a quiet couple of years for Paramore.
The song, as the title would suggest, is about the Hard Times experience by the group… entering rock bottom, hitting the ground and bouncing back – now that’s something I can get on board with.
The last couple of years have been hard. Relationships, work and everything in between have tried and tested me repeatedly; with my mental health often taking the brunt of my frustrations. Which leads to periods of not eating, eating too much, not sleeping, sleeping too much…you get the gist, right?
“Gonna take you down and laugh when you cry…and I still don’t know how I even survived Hard Times.”
The single comes from the band’s new album (After Laughter) – the first in four years – which is due for release in the next few weeks – and I cannot WAIT to see what other feel good tunes are in store.
And if, like me, you’d love to get on your sleeveless t-shirts (remember when we thought cutting the sleeves off shit with scissors was cool) and getting your huge eyeliner perfectly sweeping (oh wait…I still do that) – then Paramore’s tour will probably do it for you.
